JONE BUSH
From throwing a baseball (my first love) to throwing a piece of pottery, it has been a fascinating journey for this Martinsburg, Pa native. Jone is a graduate from Morrison Cove High School. She has earned degrees in education from West Chester University, Penn State University and Springfield College. Dr. Bush has spent her professional career working in the field of physical education. She has been a successful teacher, coach and administrator at the junior and high school, college and university level.
Prior to her retirement from East Stroudsburg University, Jone began pursuing her love of art through the medium of watercolor. Then while enjoying the Florida sun several years ago, she enrolled in a beginners pottery class at the Venice Art Center. In the spring of 2002 she found a pottery teacher near her home and “the rest is history.” She has now designed her own studio and is making new pieces. Her creations are in galleries in Pittsburgh, Bedford and Blair Counties as well as Silver Arrow Gallery in Monroe County. She also sells her work at various craft shows throughout the year.
Jone has lived in the Pocono Mountain area for over 30 years. Her speciality pieces are had-built dishes with MOM ‘S LACE, which use some of her mother’s crochet work imprinted into the clay, thrown pieces with MOM’S LACE attached, and CARVED TREE VESSELS. The wind blown trees are unique “one of a kind” pieces that have all been thrown on a potter’s wheel.
